

You could shoot your way in and out using assault rifles, snipers, handguns, machine guns, snipers, rocket launchers, grenades, you name it- and all of those different weapons actually feel different and require unique play styles. You have a plethora of ways to approach any given situation. The bases themselves have phenomenal level design, although the open world in between those bases is rather dull on both maps. Speaking purely from a gameplay perspective, it’s damn near flawless. So, what makes it special? Lots of things, to put it simply. When we add narrative back in, I don’t think it beats MGS2, but I still would put it up there as one of the greatest games I’ve ever played- and I’ve played a lot of games. If we remove narrative from the equation, then MGSV is probably the best game in the series. My favorite is MGS2, and then MGSV is my second favorite. MGS1 is one of the first games I ever played, and I’ve been obsessed with the series for like.
